What are the NFHS and NCAA requirements for the size of my pit?
In 2003, the NFHS enacted the following MINIMUM size for a certfied high school pole vault pit: 19'8" wide, 16'5" behind the vault box, and 26" thick.

The NCAA has a MINIMUM requirement of 19'8" wide, 16'5" behind the vault box, and 32" thick.


Do Gill Athletics pits meet OSHA standards?
Yes! Gill Athletics is the ONLY manufacturer who has passed OSHA Regulation 29 CFR Section 1, 1910.66 App C, Personal Fall Arrest System force requirements.

Gill also is the ONLY manufacturer who provides a soft sweet-spot landing that is compliant with the American Society of Safety Engineers ANSI Z359.1-1992 (R1999) American National Standard fall arrest force requirements.

Is my current Gill pit upgradable to meet the new requirements?
As of 2008, there are no upgrades available. Please call Gill Athletics at 800-637-3090 for a quote on a new system that meets current standards.

What is the NFHS?
The National Federation of State High School Associations is the national service and administrative organization of high school athletics and fine arts programs in speech, debate and music. The National Federation of State High School Associations publishes playing rules in 16 sports for boys and girls competition and provides programs and services that its member state associations can use in working with the 17,346 member high schools and approximately 10 million young people involved in high school activity programs.
