Additional Safety Options

We at Gill have found some additional ways to make pole vaulters safe. The following list contains safety options, while not required, can further enhance the safety of pole vaulters.

  • Helmets
Helmets are used by several top vaulters and they provide effective, lightweight protection. We at Gill believe that helmets can provide much added protection from head injuries to vaulters. Four states (Maine, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin) require the use of a certified PV helmet for high school competition.
  • Pole Protector Sleeves
Pole protector sleeves provide an easy way to keep vaulters safe. A pole protector sleeve slides easily on to provide maximum protection against damage to the pole caused by contact with the upper edges of the vault box.
  • Grip Tape
By putting grip tape on the pole, vaulters can prevent slipping of the hands during the vault. This provides an increase in safety.
